Approaches to Effective and Ethical Policy Advocacy for the Prevention Professional

This session, led by CARS, takes a deeper dive into processes of civic engagement, California-specific laws and legislation that impact prevention, and the ethical boundaries for policy advocacy. To move from knowledge to application, this course guides participants through critical components of civic engagement and lobbying, including considerations that must be honored for community-based and grassroots organizations who receive public funding. Participants will learn about national and state laws, as well as where to look and what questions ask when gathering information about regional, county, jurisdictional, and organizational expectations related to lobbying practices. There is comfort in knowledge; a prepared professional can take part (and play an important role!) in civic engagement processes both effectively and safely.
