Urban Strategies Council
empowered youth of color through the Community Health Fellows in Residence program in Alameda County. The program developed leadership skills through mentoring and peer engagement to advance policy changes and substance use prevention in Oakland. Fellows successfully led an advocacy effort in Vallejo in 2022, resulting in the passing of an ordinance banning smoking in multi-unit housing.
CommuniCare Health Centers
supported and advocated for the LGBTQ+ community in Yolo County. The organization fostered understanding and connections with the larger community through various outreach programs and events. In 2021, they held the first Woodland Pride Celebration to celebrate LGBTQ+ inclusion and acceptance.
East Bay Asian Youth Center (EBAYC)
promoted leadership development and policy advocacy with Southeast Asian youth in Sacramento through a substance-use prevention/early intervention program. The organization created support groups, ran campaigns, hosted an annual Asian Youth Leadership Summit and provided case management and life coaching to reduce substance use. The Youth Action Team was actively involved in the Sacramento Kids First campaign to pass a city charter amendment dedicating 40% of cannabis tax revenue to prevention and early intervention services.
